The Yacht Club of Monaco (YCM), whose president is Prince Albert II, joined forces with Hublot in a unique watch partnership.

In an extension to the partnership, this year sees Hublot become the official timekeeper of the very popular Monaco Classic Week, a major event in the international calendar, which each year in September brings together off the coast of the Principality the finest vessels (yachts and motor cruisers) in the true spirit of traditional yachting. To celebrate the event, the Swiss watch manufacturer has designed a numbered limited edition of 250 models of its new Big Bang chronograph. On its black carbon dial, this timepiece features the red, white and gold emblem of the Yacht Club of Monaco, while the back cover shows an engraving of the YCM flagship, the Tuiga.

For the fifth consecutive year, Chopard was alongside Elton John at the famous White Tie & Tiara Ball, which he organises in the early part of each summer at his Windsor property.

At the event, Chopard unveiled the latest edition to the Elton John collection: the “Orange” chronograph. Dazzling and fresh, the orange hue of this chronograph alternates with the silver grey of the hour-circle and the three auxiliary counters. Available with a matching crocodile wristlet and a polished steel clasp, it combines brightness and elegance. Produced in a limited edition of 2,000 pieces, it bears the Elton John signature. A large share of the profits made from the sale of these watches is paid to the foundation, which for twelve years has been active in the fight against AIDS.

On the occasion of the ceremonies held to mark the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil by the Portuguese navigator, Vasco de Gama, who was voyaging to India at the time, President Fernando Henrique Cardoso recently inaugurated an exhibition of Brazilian photos dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. The venue was the Itamary Palace in Brazilia.

Before this official opening, addressing an invited audience of 300 guests and in the presence of the Swiss Ambassador to Brazil, Mr Francois Manfredini, Chairman of Zenith, presented President Cardoso with the Zenith 01/75 watch in rose gold made in a limited series to commemorate this historic anniversary. In compliance with the Brazilian law, which limits the value of gifts made to the President to 50 dollars, this timepiece worth 10,000 dollars will be auctioned for the benefit of the National Solidarity Fund.

With an Elite ultra-flat self-winding movement, this watch has a dial and back by Jorge Freitas, the ambassador of the Le Locle-based brand in Portugal, but better known to the public as an artist with many talents. The dial clearly shows its art deco inspiration while the domed back in 18 carat rose gold is decorated with an engraving recalling the landfall of Alvarez Cabral’s caravel in 1500. Made in 75 copies with the numbers marked on the dial and back these watches are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and will only be on sale Portugal and Brazil.

The Big Bang has been chosen as the official watch of the Swiss football team.

For the Swiss team, Hublot has developed an exclusive Big Bang with steel case and bezel, white dial with the white-on-red logo of the ASF on the seconds register at 9 o’clock, hour circle and large red seconds hand, flange and black resin side insert with the Swiss flag on the edge of the watch at 9 o’clock, black natural rubber strap, automatic movement and exclusive back cover in red and white enamel, engraved by hand, representing the ASF/SFW logo.

This exclusive model will be produced in a limited edition of 300 numbered pieces.

Crossing the Pacific in a rowing boat is not impossible. Especially when wearing the Master Compressor Extreme World chronograph from Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Emmanuel Coindre has successfully achieved his challenge of rowing across the northern passage of the Pacific, from Japan to the United States, meaning almost 11,000 km in 129 hours 17 hours 22 minutes and 22 seconds. After leaving Choshi (Japan) on June 24th 2005, he arrived in San Francisco on Monday October 31st, powered exclusively by the strength of his own arms, with no stops and no assistance, on a 6.50 meter composite rowboat.

Jaeger-LeCoultre supported the sportsman at each step of this daunting and ambitious undertaking, during which Emmanuel’s physical and mental preparation was confronted with extremely unfavourable weather conditions. The Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph remained firmly strapped to his wrist throughout the voyage.

Emmanuel Coindre: “A watch is an indispensable instrument for all sailors, and here again time was a precious tool, as indeed was the worldtime function to help me find my way through the various timezones. One of the key characteristics of the Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph is an anti-shock system patented by Jaeger-LeCoultre which was very useful throughout my voyage, particularly when you consider that the boat capsized 16 times and that the humidity rate was over 90% for the full 129 days.”

Twenty titanium and steel watches and ten titanium and platinum watches will preserve the memory of this unique undertaking. This series features the yellow and black colours of Emmanuel’s boat, with a worldtime disc on which Choshi replaces Tokyo and San Francisco Los Angeles, along with a specially engraved seal on the back.

The LUC Qualité Fleurier is a special edition created to mark the 10th anniversary of Chopard Manufacture.

It is equipped with the mechanical self-winding LUC 9.96 movement, chronometer-certified by the COSC and also carrying the «Fleurier Quality foundation» (FQF) certification. Endowed with a power-reserve of approximately 65 hours. Water-resistant to 30 metres, this model is available in a limited edition of 250.
